Um! Tokyo! Mostly I know about parks and bookstores. :D Koishikawa Korakuen is a beautiful Japanese garden built by Tokugawa lords in the 1600s, I definitely recommend it. Yoyogi Park is a great place to relax if you're in the Harajuku area (which I assume at some point you will be!) and conveniently adjacent to the Meiji Shrine grounds, which you should definitely visit. And Yanaka is a great old neighborhood to walk around in with a lot of old traditional houses, the cemetery where Natsume Soseki is buried, etc.
