I don't know if that's what it was as much as them just having polar opposite interests. If they'd been in a unit they could have had others picking up the slack but since it's just the two of them, not so much flexibility.
They look really happy when they perform together, especially in cons, so I don't think it's that they don't enjoy working together. They're just wildly different. XD
