NaNo Word Count: 3,591
Just out of curiosity, who's doing NaNo this year? Fic or original? Are you planning on doing 1,667 words a day or 50k in the last three days?

Date: 2010-11-03 10:30 pm (UTC)I wrote the first scene of my original idea, and when I went to continue, I realized I didn't really feel motivated to do the rest, which is very bad for NaNo. My second idea is a lot less clear in my head, but it also sounds more appealing right now, so I'm giving it a try. I'm only 300 words in, but hopefully it'll go fast enough that I won't get too far behind.

Date: 2010-11-04 02:16 am (UTC)My book is a fantasy involving Jewish people and monsters based all in Judaism (since there aren't any and I figured, hey, why not represent) and I'm, like, researching from holy text and books on Jewish myth and mysticism. I am psyched.

Date: 2010-11-04 05:50 pm (UTC)Two siblings from a Modern Orthodox family, find a buried "spirit box" which were ceramic/metal jars used in superstition from the 1400s-1800s (not positive on dates but something like that) and open it up, and the next thing they know, they notice both a rash of child illness around their neighborhood and a weird lady that only they can see. The plot is basically the spirit box was a real one, and when it was opened they released the four "monsters" in their neighborhood. Now they have to figure out how to thwart, defeat, and re-capture each monster.
I plan to have a lot of symbolism in the book, some on the inside life of a Modern Orthodox family (but a weird one, since it's based rather heavily on my own xD), and a ton of research both in and outside of the story. I really like that fact that, since I'm using all these stuff from sources, my characters can look up the same things. For instance, the first monster is a Lilith, which they put together after realizing it's children getting sick, and this woman can't get into houses with the chamsa hand (one of the most-used superstition items for child protection).
