NaNo Word Count: 3,591

Just out of curiosity, who's doing NaNo this year? Fic or original? Are you planning on doing 1,667 words a day or 50k in the last three days?

Me! Fic! I wrote 2000 words yesterday and none today (it's still the 2nd for me) and now I'm debating whether I want to start over with a totally different idea, so...we'll see how the timing goes. XD

Well, it's definitely early enough to start over without entirely losing your mind like I did last year. If you feel another idea stronger I'd go with that one.

What fandom?

JE fic again. That seems to be the only fandom I can get anywhere near that many words out of (though I'd really love to try NaNo with original fic someday when I feel more confident about my ability to write long stuff).

I wrote the first scene of my original idea, and when I went to continue, I realized I didn't really feel motivated to do the rest, which is very bad for NaNo. My second idea is a lot less clear in my head, but it also sounds more appealing right now, so I'm giving it a try. I'm only 300 words in, but hopefully it'll go fast enough that I won't get too far behind.

Mm, yeah, that's what happened to me last year. What I ended up writing was terrible structure-wise but it fascinated me, so it was easier to stay motivated.

What pairing? *g*

Exactly. And since I'm doing NaNo purely for my own entertainment, it's okay if what I wind up writing is a mess.

Ryo/Uchi. That seems to be what all my epic fic ideas are lately. XD

I am trying, but I also have a comic writing class and the freaking GREs to prep for, so I am probably setting myself up for failure.

But it's original! Me and my roommates were going to write terrible romance novels. XD

That...is...awesome. I am so tempted. Maybe I'll do a Bad Novel Writing Month in December. BaNo!

YES it's kind of fun. Esp since I got a lot of boosts looking at a bunch of awful free romance novels on amazon. XD

That's beautiful. What's the story? Please tell me someone's name is Renaldo.

No Renaldos but I've got a Devon. That's like the white boy name equivalent right. XD

Devon! Yep, that's suitably romancey. Carry on.

Inception-fic has eaten my braaaaaaaaaains, so I'm doing that, but urgh, I hate every damn word of the 3500-and-something words I've done so far. I am so tempted to scrap it and start again, but I know how painful dragging those words out was, so I'm reticent to do it. XD

I have a feeling it'll all go to shit if I miss a day, but- I'm in it for the ride. And the pain. Oh God, the pain. x_x

I know what you mean! Last year I should have stuck to my original idea because even if it sucked at least I'd have been training myself to write even when I didn't want to. That's the goal this year.

Does your fic have a pairing or is it gen?

I'm doing NaNo! I was planning on 1,667 a day but I'm already behind. So, 12,5000 on the weekends, then. XD

NaNo's all about condensed insanity, so go for it!

Me! Original. Only, I have no idea how to get the story rolling now that it's November. I've got 1k in the last three days. I'm gonna pull 10k weekend.

I need to get my act together. And get diciplined! and candy!

Candy, yes! Candy will help!

Bon chance!

I am! As previously mentioned 8D I'm trying to get in at least 3,000 a day, but if I can crank out more that's good. I'm trying to shoot for 70k this year.

My book is a fantasy involving Jewish people and monsters based all in Judaism (since there aren't any and I figured, hey, why not represent) and I'm, like, researching from holy text and books on Jewish myth and mysticism. I am psyched.

That's fantastic! I don't know much about Jewish lore - what's the premise?

Premise!:

Two siblings from a Modern Orthodox family, find a buried "spirit box" which were ceramic/metal jars used in superstition from the 1400s-1800s (not positive on dates but something like that) and open it up, and the next thing they know, they notice both a rash of child illness around their neighborhood and a weird lady that only they can see. The plot is basically the spirit box was a real one, and when it was opened they released the four "monsters" in their neighborhood. Now they have to figure out how to thwart, defeat, and re-capture each monster.

I plan to have a lot of symbolism in the book, some on the inside life of a Modern Orthodox family (but a weird one, since it's based rather heavily on my own xD), and a ton of research both in and outside of the story. I really like that fact that, since I'm using all these stuff from sources, my characters can look up the same things. For instance, the first monster is a Lilith, which they put together after realizing it's children getting sick, and this woman can't get into houses with the chamsa hand (one of the most-used superstition items for child protection).

I'm sort of unofficially doing it! have been working on a novel I started years ago. So far I've been doing about 1k a day. :"> Just hoping I can keep it up for a bit, even if I never get to 50k.

Definitely wise! The ongoing projects sometimes need more time, even for draft zero. Best of luck, m'dear!
