I've had self-awareness for a very long time. I am insane; I embrace that.
So, in fact, do my parents.
At lunch yesterday--
[Dad notices the iPod belonging to Daughter (HI THAT'S ME! CLOSE UP!) on the table.]
Dad: Aww, you still use that?
Daughter: O__O Yes. It's kind of my lifeblood. Except it's a machine.
Dad: I'm glad to see you get use out of the things we give you. Can I look at it? I want to see the music you keep on it.
Daughter: Sure. Most of it's in Japanese.
Dad: ...
Daughter: I want to learn Japanese, by the way.
Dad: In addition to Greek?
Mom: And Latin?
[Daughter overlooks dry tones and nods, beaming.]
Daughter: Ooh! Want to hear my new favorite band?
[Dad smiles with a level of skill earned from years of exposure to American boy bands. Daughter scrolls down to Hoshi wo Mezashite.]
Daughter: They're called NewS.
[While Dad listens, Daughter turns to Mom.]
Daughter: Sup.
Mom: Nothing.
Daughter: Well, that killed it.
Mom: [grinning] Sorry.
[Dad takes out earpiece.]
Dad: It's got a mellow sound to it. Here, [holds out earpiece to Mom] listen to that.
Daughter: [apropos of nothing] I memorized the lyrics.
[Parents exchange Look*.]
Daughter: And they're all hot. [Beams.]
*Did you see her hit her head since we sat down?

Date: 2007-03-25 10:30 pm (UTC)I AM LEARNING LATIN. I will save Greek for grad school. Also, I am going to buy the Rosetta Stone program for Japanese to work on in my free time, because I am special indeed.

Hooray for Latin! I lose at languages (exhibit a: my twelve-year struggle with Hebrew), but I want to learn Japanese very much. I can, er, pronounce things!

(I made the mistake of showing my brother the Kitto Daijoubu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRQ6xEb5FEE) video and he didnt talk to me for an entire day...
